    Iconinc Welcome Week Highlights

I recently moved into Iconinc, the Glassworks and so far have been loving the experience, with one of my favourite times being the Welcome week they put on for residents! Welcome week was full of events almost every day. Let's revisit the vibrant events during this week, which helped to foster friendships and a sense of community. From Moon festivals to Wild West parties, come explore the excitement of settling into a new accommodation with me!

    Sip & Paint: A Creative Kick-off

On Monday we had the sip & paint, where we all got our own canvases and drinks, and got to know other residents. It was such a fun yet calming activity and I felt that it was a lovely way to start the week and start conversations. Each canvas had a matching post-it with a talking point on it for anyone who was too nervous to start chatting. At the end, everyone had super cute decorations for their apartment, and the high moods really set the tone for the week.

    Wild West Welcome Party Extravaganza

The next day was the big one- the wild west welcome party! When I came downstairs I was in shock- the reception and lounge area had been completely transformed into an amazing saloon-style space with props and costumes for us to wear. With the Iconinc team going all-in on the western vibe, the photos that came out of the night were AMAZING- not to mention the 360° video platform we’ve all seen on TikTok (I may have used it more than a fair few times that night…). For food and entertainment we had the burgers made fresh on the barbecue, a station to try our hand at mixology, and we could sit to enjoy our meal while watching everyone compete for the longest time on the bucking bronco. The night was SO fun, and everyone stayed downstairs for the rest of the evening to hang out in the lounges and keep the good vibes going!

    Marbled Plant Pot Workshop

Getting creative again, we had a visitor on the Thursday who showed us how to make beautiful marbled plant pots. Coming up from Studio Dawn, the host directed us on how to make these pots, which ended up coming in handy at the right moment; I’ve been using one of the pots I made as a make-up brush pot, and the other as a plant pot! Everyone enjoyed thoroughly, the host was so incredibly lovely and helpful and most importantly, at the end of the event, we were all walking away with two decorative but functional pieces for our apartments. Everyone who attended loved it!

    Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival

Friday evening was spent celebrating the mid-Autumn festival, where we were able to enjoy viewing the moon, beautiful decorations and lovely Chinese food. I had always wanted to try mooncakes and love learning and experiencing other people’s cultures, and it was so great learning from the Chinese residents at Glassworks, some of which came dressed in traditional hanfu! It was a beautiful experience and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to have that here at Iconinc!

Wind down time: Movie and Mingling

For movie night we took a vote for what to watch and ended up with Just Go with it! It was such a laugh and the perfect end to the jam-packed week. Getting to just chill and hang out with all the people we’d met over the week was lovely, especially after a week of freshers events and settling in! So far I’ve loved my time at Iconinc, with great staff, apartments and amazing events. I know I’ve made the right choice for my accommodation and highly recommend Iconinc for all students in Leeds, Lincoln or Liverpool!
