A Day In The Life Of An IconInc Student

Suzy Quinn

Hi! I’m Suzy and I’m an IconInc resident. This is my second year living here, and I love it! It’s such a great place and I’ve managed to make some great friends from all over the world. IconInc is so different to other student accommodations – from the facilities, to the people, to the general vibe of the place. It’s just on another level. I’m going to share with you a typical day in my life so you can get an idea of what living at IconInc is really like.

8am: I have quite a few 9am lectures so I don’t get many lie ins! I’m usually up around 8am and start to get ready. Having an en-suite in my room is so good because usually at home there’s always someone using the bathroom when I need it.

8:30am: Depending how tired I am, I can be a bit slow in the morning, so the IconInc Grab & Go breakfast is perfect for me – especially if I’m running late. I can grab a fresh coffee, a croissant and some fruit and take it with me to eat it on the way to my lectures. I opted for some freshly baked bread this morning – it was soooo good.

9am: On a Monday I have three back-to-back lectures which is just the worst, so I’m on campus all morning.

12pm: Lectures = done. When I come back in to IconInc, the concierge call me over and hand me a parcel that was delivered while I was at uni. It’s great knowing that they can sign for them and keep them for me until I can come pick them up. Not having to wait in for parcels makes my life so much easier!

12:30pm: Sometimes I’ll walk into town and have lunch there, but a lot of the time I stay at IconInc for my lunch. The pantry has loads of food and snacks so I’ll just grab something from there and sit with a couple of my friends in the area next to it so we can have a catch up while we eat.

1:30pm: I’ll definitely have some work to do after my lectures, so in the afternoon I try and power through it. At IconInc, there’s dedicated study areas as well as private study rooms which I use all the time. If I work in my room, I find too many things to distract myself, so I like to be in a proper study area to help me focus better.

4pm: I’m really into my health and fitness, so I love the fact IconInc has a gym on-site. They have a personal trainer that I’ve used a few times, and they also do yoga classes as part of their events timetable. But sometimes I just prefer a solo work out after I’ve had my head in books all afternoon. There’s loads of good equipment to use and I can connect my own music to the sound system which I always do when it’s quiet.

5pm: The best way for me to relax and re-energise myself after going hard at the gym, is to spend half an hour or so in the sauna or the steam room. I never imagined I’d be able to do that at my student accommodation! It’s just nice to have some quiet me-time, and I always come out feeling super fresh.

6pm: Once a week, myself and a few others make a group meal in the mega kitchen. I’ve been able to try quite a few different cuisines so far which has been awesome. It’s really fun to actually make a meal together and have a proper sit down and chat over some good food. It makes mealtimes really fun and sociable.

7:30pm: The evening is when most of the events happen. Tonight is movie night so I’m heading to the cinema room with my friends. Movie nights are my favourite because they’re just a great way to relax at the end of the day, and of course there’s popcorn!

10pm: Once the movie is over, me and a few of my friends might spend a bit of time in the mega lounge and have chat about it before bed. I love films, so I like going over them once they finish and talking about my favourite parts. I’m a bit of a movie nerd!

10:45pm: It’s been a long day, so it’s time to get ready for bed. I might watch a couple of episodes of a TV show in bed and then that’s me done for the night, ready to do it all again tomorrow!
