Oct, '17Starting at the gym can be a daunting process. Firstly, you’ve got to get over the mental block of going to the gym. Secondly, you’ve got to learn how to use all the equipment and figure out what works best for you. Once you’re in the habit of working out though, it all becomes second nature and we’re here to make it as easy as possible for you to enjoy gym life.
Before we go into 3 easy workouts for gym beginners, it’s worth thinking about how to make gym life an enjoyable thing to do in the first place.
First of all, start small. Pick two days a week where you can spend between 30 – 60 minutes in the gym. Be realistic about what you can achieve and set goals that are both long term and short term. That means you can track your progress from day one and you won’t get demotivated just by having one goal.Circuit Training
Circuit training is great if you’re looking for an all over workout. It’s also a great way to familiarise yourself with the gym equipment and to stay engaged in your workout. Each activity lasts only 1 minute and there are stations focussed on everything from skipping to bicep curls and from planking to just resting for a little bit!
Coach Qu, IconInc’s Personal Trainer, runs classes every Monday at The Glassworks so turn up and enjoy a class with several others that are wanting to get into the gym, just like you!A Cardio Work Out
If you think the idea of a cardio work out sounds tedious and tiring, think again. If you split your work out into small sections, not only will you stay focused on your work out but you’ll get the cardio workout you need to help keep you healthy.
Instead of running on the treadmill for 30 minutes, why not do 10 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the rowing machine, and 10 minutes on the cycling machine? Splitting your workout into small sections means that you’re not overwhelming yourself and you might find that you can keep going to a little longer each time.Legs, Bums and Tums
A group work out is always fun as you and your friends can encourage you to keep going when you feel like you’re running out of energy. Legs, Bums and Tums is also a great way to work on core areas without having to work out what you need to do in the gym on your own. If you fancy giving this class a go, make sure you turn up at The Glassworks on a Friday evening for an energetic class with Coach Qu!Gym Timetable for The Edge and The Glassworks
