A celebration for the entire United Kingdom, there was no chance that here at IconInc we could let the event pass by without a celebration of our own. On Saturday the 19th, a beautifully, surprisingly, sunny day in Leeds, the tenants of IconInc got together to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Here’s Nathan, a tenant at The Glassworks, to tell us all about the Royal Wedding Day!
To honour the occasion, tenants were encouraged to dress up in some of their finest regalia to truly create the wedding party atmosphere!
The courtyard of The Glassworks served as the perfect venue for the festivities as the tenants of The Glassworks and The Edge showed up in full force. As the ceremony took place tenants and staff alike gathered around the TV, some there to view the full spectacle, some more concerned with Meghan’s dress – which was pretty amazing!
As the country celebrated so did we. The crowd moved to the courtyard for food, music, and celebration. The BBQs had been set up by Red’s True Barbecue who were providing an incredibly tasty and colourful variety of food. The tenants began socialising, as Laura Bankhead, a tenant of the Glassworks, went to fetch her own special guest.
As she returned she brought with her Tamzene, a Leeds based singer-songwriter, originally from Scotland, whose solo acoustic performance was nothing short of incredible. A combination of original song writing and well picked covers set the perfect tone for the afternoon as we were treated to our own private set from someone I can guarantee has an incredible career in music ahead. These are the kind of moments you can’t prepare for at IconInc and are the moments that make this place so special.
As the performance came to an end, the party spread. Some moved to take pictures with cut outs, some went to play lawn games, some stayed in their seats enjoying the sun and the socialising, and some continued to eat making full use of the free food on offer!
As the day came close to an end Red’s provided one last delicious surprise for tenants as they stepped out of the mega kitchen with a truly British classic, the Eton Mess. The event ended as the sun began to set and whether the day ended with watching the FA Cup final, trying to get the last glimpses of sunlight, or just recuperating after too much food, the tenants remarked on what a great day it had been at The Glassworks.
Some huge thanks before this blog finally ends. First of all, to Red’s True Barbecue for supplying some amazing food for the day. You can grab 20% student discount from them any day of the week and on Tuesdays, this goes up to 40% off for students.
Secondly, if I haven’t convinced you enough already, you should definitely give Tamzene a listen. You can find her on Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram.
