As a second-year student, I was excited to return to Liverpool to continue my studies. I'm writing this while enjoying a pomegranate from the weekly free fruit and veg order provided by Iconinc. If you're considering moving to the Iconinc, I highly recommend it! Here was my experience as a new resident: 1.The run-up to moving in A week before my residency contract started, a team member emailed me asking when would be best for me to move in so the staff knew when to expect me. I liked that there weren’t loads of spam emails like in other places, and It was concise and friendly. It also gave me clarity on how things were going to go, which was helpful too. 2. The move-in date I came with a car full of suitcases and the rest of my belongings. I was a bit nervous; however, Abdi kindly helped me get all my bags onto a fancy baggage cart. He informed me about the Iconinc app and how it works. I signed a few papers, was given my key card (fancy), and then Abdi showed me to my new room. It’s really like a hotel! The moment I walked in felt a little like a movie; I had a tour of the building before moving in, so I thought I knew what to expect, but it feels much better when you know it's yours. It was a lot better than I had imagined. The view is incredible, there is always something to watch below, and you can see on top of buildings you didn't even know existed. 3.The welcome week The welcome week consisted of a new event each day, giving residents a chance to meet new people. The residents got invited via the Iconinc app, and you could choose which events you wanted to attend. The coolest part is they are all free, so anyone could come. I attended all the events because I was eager to meet my neighbours. Day one was meeting the team and asking questions - really insightful, and the best part was the free cake, which was delicious. Then later that day, two dogs came in to model for us while we drew them, we had a teacher showing us techniques, and there was even a prize at the end. This event was a fantastic way to bond with people and the start of some great friendships I made. Day two was one of my Personal favourites and consisted of two events. First was the open gym day, where the personal trainer came in and showed us how to use the equipment; I'm not sure how I made it to the next event because my legs were so sore afterwards. There was a load of smoothies too. Then there was the carnival party. The party was epic. There were hot dogs and chips, candy floss, pick and mix sweets, slush and popcorn. The games and the decorations were so cool, but the thing that blew my mind was the magician. He was terrific, and I started to believe Harry Potter was real. I had a great time socialising with my newly made friends; everyone was kind. On day three, we had a movie night with pizza; there were vegan options and lots of sweets, something for everyone. We all voted on a movie, dimmed the lights and watched it. Afterwards, the people from the movie night all decided to go on a walk around Liverpool together. Movie night was incredible. And every Saturday, the staff added a new item for breakfast; we had waffles, salmon and bagels, pancakes and smoothies. The food was delicious, and I took lots of pictures. 4.The amenities The amenities are amazing for the price you are paying. There is a sauna and steam room perfect for a girls' night. My favourite is the cinema where you can watch movies with your friends after a long day. Complimentary breakfast every morning, a cool fact about the toast is some of the staff make the bread themselves that morning - impressive. The study rooms will come in handy during exam season. A games/sports room is great for playing with friends. In the gym, you can connect your phone to the speaker to play your music; I love this. I use the gym every morning with my friends, a perfect way to start the day after breakfast. A personal touch, I love about this place, is every room has a new place printed on the wall; it's a good conversation starter with other residents. 5.After three weeks here, thoughts? So currently, I've been here for three weeks and love the place so much that I want to become an ambassador. This place is a hidden gem, absolutely underrated and exceeds my expectations on every level. I've made fantastic friends in only three weeks, and everyone is super friendly and polite. I'm 100% staying for my third year. It is a five-minute walk away from LIPA, my university. This distance is handy when walking back late at night; many of my friends are also close to their unis. The Iconinc is right in the middle of the shops, so you're not carrying your things for what feels like miles, and everything is accessible at your fingertips. It is the perfect location, especially since it's so close to the train station.
